Exercise Prescription Training for Jiangsu Medical Staff

This essay is drawn from published discussion. It cites classical Chinese books, the words of others, or academic argument, and is meant as cultural reading on the traditional cultivation of life. What it says about the body, and about what practice may do, belongs to the sources quoted or to the original speaker. It is not a medical promise or clinical advice from the people who operate this website.

To carry out Healthy Jiangsu and strengthen the integration of sport and medicine, the Jiangsu Health Commission, together with the General Administration of Sport of China and the China Sport Science Society, held a training class for exercise prescription practitioners and engaged Hu Xiaofei to teach. Those who attended were doctors, nurses, and administrators from the Provincial People’s Hospital, the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, and other hospitals, as well as from epidemic stations. The content was Warm-Up Before Practice for sport and cultivating life, Yangsheng Zhuji Gong (Foundation Practice), and Health Qigong · Ba Duan Jin (Eight Pieces of Brocade).

One hundred twenty physicians and rehabilitation therapists from centers for disease control and hospitals practiced together, for eighty class hours in all: fifty-eight of theory, twenty-two of technique.

The original writes that the effects of traditional sport won affirmation from these medical staff. Hu Xiaofei’s movements and explanations held their close attention. The text holds that before long more people will gain prevention and treatment of illness from traditional sport and cultivating life. This is the original’s judgment.

The text also has two passages on the needs of the time. First: population aging is accelerating, people with chronic illness increase year by year, and the need for rehabilitation after surgery and after illness is rising. “Exercise cultivation of health,” with the exercise prescription at its core and sport as its means, aimed at the not-yet-ill, chronic illness, and convalescence after illness, is becoming a need often mentioned. Second: Healthy China needs “Daoyin cultivation prescriptions” with Chinese characteristics.
